The best time to visit depends on what you'd like to catch and how you want to experience the wilderness.
Are you dreaming of a large grayling rising to a dry fly, searching for sea trout in a Norwegian fjord or watching an arctic char take your lure beneath the ice?
Each season has its own character, and the fishing changes with the weather, water levels and light.
Use the seasonal charts below to find the best time for your adventure.
The chart shows the typical fishing opportunities for our main target species from April to September.
The ratings are a general guide rather than a guarantee. Conditions vary between years and locations.
April ratings to grayling, brown trout and arctic char refer to ice fishing only. Sea trout fly fishing is possible in April.
Brown trout is mainly protected in our rivers in September but in fell lakes fly fishing can still be really good.
Longer days, bright sunshine and frozen fell lakes make Arctic spring a wonderful time to visit Lapland.
We concentrate our guided ice fishing adventures on March and April, exploring remote lakes from Kilpisjärvi to Käsivarsi wilderness.
Arctic char, grayling and whitefish are among our main targets. In suitable shallow, clear waters, sight fishing is also possible—you may even watch a fish take your lure beneath the ice.
March is a really good month for spotting Northern Lights.
April also marks the beginning of some excellent coastal sea trout opportunities in Northern Norway.
Best for: Ice fishing, arctic char, grayling, whitefish, sight fishing through ice and snowmobile adventures.
As the snow melts and the rivers begin to open, the fishing season changes.
May and early June are particularly interesting for sea trout fishing along the Norwegian coast. We'll explore fjords, shorelines and shallow bays, searching for wild sea trout in beautiful Arctic surroundings.
June also brings the beginning of the river fishing season in Lapland. As water levels settle and insect activity increases, the first opportunities for dry-fly fishing begin to appear and the fish have been waiting for that.
And with the arrival of the midnight sun, there's plenty of daylight for long fishing days.
Best for: Coastal sea trout, early-season river fishing, the first heli fishing trips and the midnight sun.
For anglers dreaming of dry-fly fishing in Lapland, July and August are usually the most attractive months.
The rivers and lakes offer excellent opportunities to pursue wild grayling, brown trout and Arctic char.
Warm summer days, insect hatches and long evenings create wonderful conditions for exploring the northern wilderness.
This is also the main season for our longer fishing expeditions, including Lapland Grand Slam and Heli Fishing.
We can spend our days searching for rising fish, exploring remote waters and adapting our plans to the conditions.
Best for: Dry-fly fishing, grayling, brown trout, arctic char and wilderness expeditions.
September brings a different atmosphere to Lapland.
The landscapes turn golden and red, the evenings grow darker and the summer crowds begin to disappear.
Early September can still offer rewarding fishing for grayling, arctic char and brown trout where local regulations allow.
The shorter days also bring back opportunities to see the northern lights on clear nights.
Fishing seasons and many rivers are closed for fishing. We'll select suitable locations and avoid trout fishing in the rivers.
Best for: Early-autumn fishing, peaceful wilderness scenery and northern lights.
Lapland changes dramatically throughout the year.
The midnight sun lights up the summer nights, while the darker skies of spring and autumn may offer opportunities to see the northern lights.
Whether you prefer bright Arctic spring days, endless summer evenings or colourful autumn landscapes, there's a season worth experiencing.
