Personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen the founder of Grayling Guide
Imagine following a remote northern river for five days, drifting between promising fishing pools, searching for rising grayling and camping beside the water.
The Grayling Adventure combines dry-fly fishing, river rafting and wilderness camping into one continuous journey through some of northern Scandinavia's most beautiful grayling waters.
Each day brings new stretches of river to explore, but there's no rush to keep moving. When we find exceptional fishing opportunities, we can stay longer and make the most of them.
With your private guide taking care of the rafting, fishing equipment, meals, accommodation and wilderness arrangements, you can concentrate on the fishing and the experience.
Follow the river. Find the fish. Enjoy the wilderness.
There's something special about watching a large grayling rise slowly through clear water to take a dry fly.
Grayling are among the most fascinating fish for fly anglers. Their willingness to feed on the surface, beautiful dorsal fins and sometimes surprisingly selective behaviour make them a rewarding species to pursue.
Northern Scandinavia offers wonderful opportunities for dry-fly fishing, with wild grayling inhabiting rivers ranging from gentle, flowing stretches to faster currents and deeper pools.
Dry flies are our preferred method, and much of the expedition is spent searching for rising fish and presenting flies in promising water.
When conditions change, we can also use nymphs or streamers to explore different parts of the river.
For many anglers, the dream is to catch a truly exceptional grayling on a dry fly. That's exactly the kind of opportunity we're searching for.
Of course, these are wild fish in natural rivers. Nothing is guaranteed, and finding the right fish is part of the challenge.
The next rise could be the one you've been waiting for.
Some of the best fishing opportunities are found far from easily accessible fishing spots.
On the Grayling Adventure, river rafting becomes part of the fishing experience.
Instead of returning to the same stretch of river every day, we can travel downstream, exploring new pools, runs and quieter sections along the way.
We stop whenever we find interesting water, taking time to fish from the riverbank, wade suitable stretches or investigate promising places.
You can participate in paddling if you wish, or simply enjoy the journey while your guide takes care of the rafting.
Your guide is a trained river rafting captain and manages the equipment, route planning and safety arrangements.
The raft takes us further. The fishing decides where we stop.
The Grayling Adventure is usually a five-day expedition combining guided fishing, river rafting and wilderness camping.
We travel along the river, fishing promising stretches and setting up camp close to the water.
A typical day might begin with morning coffee, followed by a few hours of dry-fly fishing before packing the raft and continuing downstream.
When we find interesting fishing waters, we can take our time. We can see when fish start rising in slow moving pools. Sometimes that means spending an entire day fishing around the same camp instead of moving further downstream.
The itinerary remains flexible throughout the expedition, allowing us to adapt to the weather, river conditions and fishing opportunities.
The aim isn't to travel as far as possible.
It's to explore the river, find wild grayling and enjoy the freedom of a real wilderness fishing expedition.
Wake up beside a flowing river, enjoy your morning coffee surrounded by the northern wilderness and look forward to another day of fishing.
During the Grayling Adventure, we spend our nights in wilderness tent camps along the river. Depending on the itinerary, the first or last night may be spent in a guest room.
Our camps allow us to stay close to the fishing waters and make the most of our time in the wilderness.
After a day of fishing and rafting, we prepare a good meal, relax around the campfire and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the river.
All camping equipment, accommodation and meals are included. Your guide takes care of the practical arrangements, so you can concentrate on fishing and enjoying the journey.
This isn't conventional luxury. It's something different: the freedom to explore a wild river, camp beside its waters and leave everyday life behind.
The real luxury is waking up beside the river, with another day of fishing ahead.
The Grayling Adventure is a private expedition for two to four anglers, accompanied by one dedicated guide.
With a small group, we can keep the fishing personal and flexible.
Whether you're an experienced dry-fly enthusiast searching for a trophy grayling or an angler who simply loves exploring new rivers, we'll plan the adventure around your interests.
Fly fishing is the main focus, but spin fishing is also welcome.
You don't need previous rafting experience. Your guide takes care of the rafting arrangements, and you can choose how actively you want to participate.
You should, however, be comfortable spending long days outdoors and prepared for changing northern weather.
Local knowledge. A passion for dry flies.
Every Grayling Adventure is personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen, the founder of Grayling Guide.
I've been fishing for more than 40 years, spending much of that time exploring the rivers and lakes of northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. And this adventure is at my home river.
Fly fishing for grayling, especially with dry flies, is one of my greatest passions.
For me, a good fishing trip isn't about following a strict timetable or rushing from one fishing spot to another. It's about reading the river and taking the time to enjoy the experience.
With a maximum of four anglers, we can keep the atmosphere relaxed and make decisions together as the adventure unfolds.
I'll take care of the guiding, rafting and practical arrangements so you can concentrate on fishing and enjoying the wilderness.
"I can't promise the grayling of your lifetime, but I'll do my best to help you find it."

Is the Grayling Adventure mainly a fly-fishing trip?
Yes. The expedition is especially designed for fly fishers who enjoy targeting wild grayling, with dry-fly fishing as the main focus. Nymphs, streamers and spin fishing are also welcome.
Do I need previous rafting experience?
No. Your guide is certified river rafting captain and handles the rafting arrangements and safety procedures. You can help with paddling if you wish or simply enjoy the journey.
Will we be fishing from the raft or wading?
The raft is primarily a way to explore different stretches of river. We stop at promising fishing locations, where we can fish from the bank or wade suitable waters. But we can also fish from the raft to reach certain areas far from river banks.
Is the itinerary fixed?
No. The expedition is flexible and planned around your group's interests, river conditions and fishing opportunities. We can adjust the amount of rafting and fishing according to your preferences.
Do we move to a new campsite every day?
Probably not. Although the Grayling Adventure is a continuous river expedition, we don't need to travel downstream every day. When we find excellent fishing waters, we may stay at the same campsite for two nights and spend more time exploring the surrounding river.
Do I need to bring fishing or camping equipment?
No. All necessary fishing, rafting and camping equipment is included, together with fishing licences, meals, accommodation and transportation from Kittilä Airport. You're welcome to bring your own fishing and camping equipment if you prefer.
