Personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen the founder of Grayling Guide
Imagine travelling across snow-covered mountains under the bright Arctic spring sun, heading towards a remote lake where wild fish are waiting beneath the ice.
Our Frozen Lakes Expedition takes you into the beautiful Kilpisjärvi and Käsivarsi wilderness regions of Northern Finland for several days of guided ice fishing.
We'll explore different mountain lakes in search of arctic char, grayling and whitefish, travelling by snowmobile and sledge to reach waters far beyond the roads.
And when conditions allow, you can even watch fish take your lure beneath the ice.
A true Arctic fishing adventure, with everything arranged for you.
The mountain lakes of Northern Lapland offer exciting ice fishing opportunities in spectacular surroundings.
Arctic Char – Beautiful, colourful fish and one of the most exciting species to pursue in remote mountain lakes.
Grayling – A familiar favourite among fishers in Lapland, offering a completely different challenge beneath the ice.
Whitefish – Often requiring a delicate presentation and careful technique, especially when sight fishing.
We'll choose our fishing locations according to the conditions and your interests, giving you the opportunity to explore different waters during the expedition.
One of the highlights of Arctic ice fishing is the possibility of sight fishing.
In shallow, clear lakes, you can lay down and look through the ice hole and watch fish approach your lure. We can also use underwater cameras to have a clear picture what is happening.
Seeing an arctic char appear beneath the ice, hesitate and suddenly take the lure is an unforgettable experience.
Sight fishing also lets you observe fish behaviour and adjust your technique as you fish.
Visibility depends on the conditions, so sight fishing cannot be guaranteed, but it's something we'll look for whenever possible.
Reaching remote fishing waters is part of the adventure.
We'll travel by snowmobile and sledge through the mountain wilderness, crossing frozen lakes and enjoying spectacular Arctic scenery along the way.
Each day can take us to a different fishing location, depending on the weather, ice conditions and fish activity.
There's no rigid daily schedule. We'll make the most of the fishing opportunities and enjoy the journey.
March and April are wonderful months for ice fishing in Lapland.
The days are longer, the spring sunshine returns and the snow-covered mountains create a beautiful setting for fishing.
After a day outdoors, we'll return to comfortable cabin or hotel accommodation in the Kilpisjärvi area for a warm meal and a relaxing evening.
In March, there are excellent opportunities to see the northern lights on clear, dark evenings, although sightings are never guaranteed. Kilpisjärvi is a famous for its Northern Lights.
Every Frozen Lakes Expedition is private and tailored to your group.
