Personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen the founder of Grayling Guide
Some of the most rewarding fishing experiences begin far beyond the reach of ordinary roads.
Imagine flying over fell landscapes and remote lakes before landing in a wilderness river where the only sounds are the wind, flowing water and the occasional rise of a fish.
Our Heli Fishing expedition takes you deep into the northern wilderness for five days of guided fishing, exploring secluded lakes and rivers that only few anglers ever get to experience.
Travel by helicopter or floatplane, set up camp close to the fishing waters and spend your days pursuing wild grayling, brown trout and arctic char.
With packrafts or float tubes available for exploring the lakes and rivers, you'll have the freedom to reach fishing opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to access.
Dry-fly fishing is at the heart of the experience, but we adapt our techniques to the fish and conditions. Nymphs, streamers and spin fishing are also welcome.
Your adventure begins where phones don't work.
Far from roads and busy fishing destinations, we'll explore remote waters in search of wild fish.
Arctic Grayling – The Dry-Fly Favourite
Few experiences compare to watching a large grayling rise to a dry fly on a remote northern lake or river.
Grayling are among the most rewarding fish to pursue with a fly rod, and some of Lapland's remote waters offer opportunities to encounter particularly impressive fish. This is for trophy hunters.
Brown Trout – The Wild Predator
Wild brown trout offer a different kind of challenge. Whether you're searching for rising fish or exploring promising water with a streamer, every encounter with a strong wilderness trout is memorable. And in same lakes we have both brown trout and arctic char.
Arctic Char – The Treasure of the Fells
In suitable mountain waters, Arctic char add another dimension to the fishing. These beautiful fish inhabit cold, clear lakes and can provide exciting opportunities for anglers willing to explore. On calm days they start rising on dry flies.
The species we target depend on the chosen destination, season and fishing conditions. You can tell us what you prefer to catch and we decide where to land.
This isn't about catching as many fish as possible. It's about discovering extraordinary waters, enjoying varied fishing and making the most of every opportunity.
The journey into the wilderness is part of what makes Heli Fishing special.
Your expedition includes helicopter or floatplane transportation, allowing us to reach remote fishing areas that would otherwise require long journeys on foot.
After landing, we'll establish our wilderness camp and begin exploring the surrounding fishing waters.
The choice between helicopter and floatplane depends on the destination, group size and practical arrangements.
Our fishing locations are selected according to the season, water conditions and your preferences.
Some destinations offer exceptional opportunities for trophy grayling fishing. Others provide access to remote lakes where arctic char and brown trout can be found.
The aircraft takes us into the wilderness. The fishing adventure begins when we land.
One of the special features of this expedition is the opportunity to explore remote waters using packrafts or float tubes.
These lightweight watercraft allow us to fish areas that can be difficult or impossible to reach effectively from shore.
A float tube can be an excellent way to approach rising fish on a quiet wilderness lake, while a packraft provides the flexibility to explore larger areas and move between suitable fishing locations.
Depending on the destination, we can combine fishing from the shore with time on the water, making the most of the opportunities each location offers.
All necessary packraft or float tube equipment is included in the expedition.
You don't need to bring your own watercraft.
More freedom to explore. More water to discover. More opportunities to find fish.
The Heli Fishing expedition lasts five days and is designed around the fishing opportunities of the chosen wilderness destination.
Unlike a conventional fishing holiday based in one lodge, this is a true wilderness expedition.
We'll establish camp close to the fishing waters and spend our days exploring the surrounding lakes, streams and rivers.
You might begin the morning casting dry flies to rising grayling, explore another lake with a float tube during the day and finish the evening searching for trout.
The programme remains flexible throughout the expedition.
Weather, water conditions, fish activity and your preferences all influence how we spend our time.
There is no need to rush back to a hotel or follow a rigid daily timetable.
Five days to concentrate on the fishing, explore the wilderness and enjoy being far away from everyday life.
Wake up in your tent beside a remote lake or river, enjoy your morning coffee and watch the water for the first signs of rising fish.
Camping allows us to spend more time fishing and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the northern wilderness. There's no rush and usually no other people at all.
After a day on the water, return to camp for a good meal, conversation and stories from the day's fishing.
All tents, sleeping equipment, camping gear and meals are included. Your guide takes care of the camp arrangements, cooking and wilderness logistics, so you can concentrate on the experience.
This isn't conventional luxury. It's something more rewarding for anglers who love wild places.
The real luxury is having a remote wilderness on your doorstep. There are no phones and social media available. But your guide has always a satellite messenger in case of emergency.
Heli Fishing is a private expedition for two to four anglers, accompanied by one local fly fishing guide.
With a small group, we can keep the experience personal and adapt the fishing to your interests, experience and ambitions.
The trip is particularly well suited to fly fishers who enjoy exploring different waters, fishing in remote surroundings and spending several days away from roads and settlements.
Dry-fly fishing is often the highlight, but nymphs, streamers and spin fishing are also welcome. Especially on grayling trips we only use dry flies.
You don't need to be an expert caster or an experienced wilderness traveller to enjoy life in remote areas.
However, you should enjoy spending long days outdoors and be prepared for changing northern weather, wilderness camping and some walking between fishing locations.
Local knowledge. A passion for wild fish.
Every Heli Fishing expedition is personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen, founder of Grayling Guide.
I've spent more than 40 years fishing, much of that time exploring the waters and wilderness of Northern Finland, Sweden.
For me, Heli Fishing is one of the most rewarding ways to experience Lapland. Reaching a remote lake or river by aircraft gives us the freedom to explore fishing waters that would otherwise be difficult to access.
But the real adventure begins after we land.
It's about finding rising fish, discovering promising waters and enjoying the experience of being surrounded by wilderness.
With a maximum of four anglers, we can keep the expedition flexible and personal, adapting our plans to the conditions and your fishing interests.
I'll personally guide your expedition from the first day to the last.
"Welcome to the real wilderness!"

What fish species can we target?
The fishing depends on the chosen wilderness destination. Grayling and arctic char are among the main target species, and some locations also offer opportunities for brown trout. We'll plan the destination according to your interests and the season.
Is helicopter or floatplane transportation included?
Yes. Aircraft transportation is included in the expedition price. The choice between helicopter and floatplane depends on the destination, group size and practical arrangements. Notice that landing is not allowed to every destination to protect arctic fox. In some destinations we need to also hike a little but we can decide that in advance.
What happens if the weather prevents flying?
Safety always comes first. If weather conditions prevent the planned aircraft transfer, we'll discuss alternative arrangements. If the helicopter transportation cannot be provided, the cost of the unused helicopter transfer will be refunded.
Do I need to bring fishing or camping equipment?
No. All necessary fishing equipment, camping gear and packraft or float tube equipment is included. You're welcome to bring your own favourite fishing and camping equipment if you prefer.
Do I need experience using a packraft or float tube?
Previous experience is not essential. Your guide will explain how to use the equipment and help you choose suitable fishing methods and locations. Watercraft use always depends on safe weather and water conditions.
Is catching fish guaranteed?
No. We're fishing for wild fish in natural waters, and catches depend on the conditions. But for example on a grayling trip you have to be really unlucky not to catch fish. The aim is in all cases to provide rewarding fishing opportunities and an authentic wilderness experience, not guaranteed results.
