Imagine sitting on a frozen mountain lake, surrounded by snow-covered fells and bright Arctic spring sunshine. Somewhere beneath the ice, wild Arctic char, grayling and whitefish are waiting.
March and April are wonderful months for ice fishing in Lapland. The days are getting longer, the scenery is spectacular and the frozen lakes offer exciting fishing opportunities.
Join us for a private guided ice fishing adventure in the Kilpisjärvi and Käsivarsi wilderness regions of Northern Finland.
Travel by snowmobile and sledge into remote mountain areas, explore frozen lakes and experience the excitement of fishing beneath the ice.
In shallow, crystal-clear waters, you can even watch fish approach and take your bait.
The wilderness is frozen. The fishing adventure is just beginning.
The mountain lakes of Northern Lapland offer a unique setting for ice fishing.
Far from roads and busy tourist destinations, we'll explore frozen wilderness lakes surrounded by snow-covered fells.
Reaching these waters is part of the adventure. We travel by snowmobile and sledge, crossing beautiful Arctic landscapes before arriving at our fishing destination.
Once there, we'll drill holes through the ice and begin searching for fish. We lay down on a matress or reindeer hide and look what's happening under ice.
Depending on the conditions and your interests, we can concentrate on one species, try different techniques or explore several fishing spots.
Whether you're an experienced ice fisher or trying it for the first time, we'll plan the trip around your group.
One of the most exciting experiences in Arctic ice fishing is sight fishing.
In suitable shallow, clear waters, you can look through the ice hole and watch what's happening beneath the surface.
Imagine seeing an arctic char slowly approach your lure, hesitate for a moment and suddenly take it.
You see the entire moment before you even feel the fish on your rod.
Sight fishing is not only exciting but also a fascinating way to learn how fish react to different lures and movements.
Visibility depends on the lake, water depth and conditions, so sight fishing isn't always possible. When necessary, we can use other techniques and sonar equipment to help locate fish. We can also use underwater cameras and see live broadcast while fishing.
Sometimes the most exciting part of fishing happens before the fish takes the lure.
The cold, clear waters of Northern Lapland are home to several interesting fish species.
Arctic Char – The Treasure of the Fells
Arctic char are among the most beautiful fish in northern waters. The mountain lakes around Kilpisjärvi offer opportunities to pursue these remarkable fish through the ice. There's nothing more exciting than seeing that arctic char circuling around your bait.
Grayling – The Northern Classic
Best known for their spectacular dorsal fins and dry-fly fishing in summer, grayling also provide exciting opportunities for ice fishing. Grayling ice fishing is always sight fishing.
Whitefish – The Delicate Challenge
Whitefish can require careful presentation and a sensitive touch. In suitable waters, they can also offer excellent sight-fishing opportunities. In our waters whitefish can grow really big.
The species we target depend on the chosen destination, season and fishing conditions.
We concentrate our ice fishing trips on March and April, when the Arctic spring brings longer days, bright sunshine and beautiful snow-covered landscapes.
March still offers a true winter atmosphere, while April brings even more daylight and often pleasant conditions for spending time outdoors.
However, the weather in the mountains can change quickly, and temperatures can still be very cold.
We'll choose our fishing destinations according to the weather, ice conditions and your interests. Safety is always the most important thing.
Bright spring sunshine. Snow-covered mountains. Wild fish beneath the ice.
All our ice fishing trips are privately guided and tailored to your group.
Whether you're an experienced angler searching for arctic char or trying ice fishing for the first time, I'll help you make the most of the day.
I'll take care of the fishing equipment, transportation and practical arrangements, so you can concentrate on enjoying the fishing and wilderness.
No previous ice fishing experience is necessary. Just bring warm clothing, curiosity and a sense of adventure.
"Welcome to winter wonderland!"
