Northern Norway offers a very different kind of sea trout fishing.
Instead of busy rivers and heavily fished estuaries, we explore Arctic fjords surrounded by mountains, cold clear water and kilometres of shoreline.
Some places are easy to reach.
Others require a long walk, a boat or a willingness to explore.
And sometimes the best water is the place nobody else has bothered to reach.
We target wild sea trout along the fjords of Northern Norway, particularly around the Lyngen and Alta regions.
Spring and early summer are prime time, with fishing generally at its best from April through June.
But sea trout fishing is never just about choosing a date.
Tides, wind, water temperature and weather all influence where the fish will be and how we approach them.
Usually we'll fish with 6-weight fly rods, covering the shoreline with shrimp patterns.
Sea trout fishing in the fjords is closely connected to the sea.
A beach that looks quiet at one stage of the tide can become completely different a few hours later.
That's why our fishing days don't always follow normal working hours.
We may start early, finish late or move between several areas as the tide changes.
The fish decide the schedule.
And if you are up for we can also change target species when tides change.
Lyngen fjord is also one of the most spectacular places you can fish for sea trout.
Snow-covered mountains rise directly from the fjords.
The coastline stretches for kilometres.
Weather can move through quickly and completely change the character of the landscape.
And while you're watching your fly swing through clear Arctic water, you may see porpoises, dolphins or other marine wildlife further out in the fjord.
For anglers who enjoy exploration as much as catching fish, Northern Norway is difficult to beat.
Some excellent sea trout water can be reached directly from the road.
But we don't have to stop there.
On longer trips we can explore more isolated stretches of coastline and use a rubber boat to reach beaches that are difficult to access from land.
Multi-day trips also give us more flexibility.
Instead of trying to make one tide and one weather window work, we can adapt the fishing to the conditions and explore different parts of the fjord.
Accommodation can range from a comfortable cabin or hotel to a much simpler camp closer to the fishing.
You don't need to be an expert sea trout angler.
Beginners are welcome, and we can help with casting, tackle and the basic techniques needed to fish the fjords effectively.
Experienced anglers will appreciate something different: unfamiliar coastline, changing tides and the challenge of finding wild fish in a huge environment.

The main sea trout season generally runs through the summer, with the best period from May to June
Early season (April): cold water and active fish in warm sunny days
Main season (May & June): long warmer days, excellent fly opportunities on the sea before many sea trout run to the rivers
Late season (from July to September): less trout in the fjords but still possible to find some
