Arctic char in Kilpisjärvi
In Lake Kilpisjärvi there's a healthy population of arctic char and they can grow huge. It's very exciting to know that there are real monster fishes under the ice. And when you see something big in your sonar I'll guarantee that your heart rate rises.
In ice fishing we can use a snowmobile and a sledge to move around. We also have an ice fishing tent if you need to escape the weather. Ice fishing season is normally from November to May. The best time for ice fishing is usually late March and April. Then the sun is starting to warm days a lot.
In December and January sun doesn't rise at all and it's relatively dark all day. It's a really unique experience to have a ice fishing trip at "Kaamos" time as we call it in here. And still you'll have a good chance to catch a huge arctic char. We use led lights on lures under water then. Daily trips during "Kaamos" time last about 5-6 hours and prices start from 500 euros.
From Kilpisjärvi we can make trips to the fell area. These trips are arranged in March and April and last about 8-10 hours. In the fell area you can enjoy magnificent scenery and sight fishing for arctic char. In spring time sun is shining a long time and it's very enjoyable to spend time in wilderness area. In longer trips you can also order proper meals and your guide will cook you different dishes.
Full day fishing trips.
Full day trip prices start from 600 euros (in December and January "kaamos") and they last 6-10 hours depending on the season and darkness. We start ice fishing trips from Kilpisjärvi. Prices for longer trips to fell area start from 700 euros.
On a multi-day trip you can live in a cottage or hotel and fish arctic char or other fish species in different lakes every day. You can just book multiple day trips in a row. We can also ride to remote lakes where only guides and some local people are allowed go.
